Almost all of these ended up being black and whites. I think your handling of light in the color images is just so well done that most of the BWs look flat in comparison – but not all, of course.

Oh, I’m definitely having more than 10 images in my portfolio – probably somewhere between 50-80. I just wanted to know what everyone thought the cream and the dross were, to see if there was a consensus. The rest I’ll figure out from there.

This is too hard! What’s wrong with 100 images in a portfolio?!?
Sigh. Since you’re *making* us choose, here’s my picks:
Favorites: 7 (because I adore just about everything from this wedding!), 10, 12, 26, 28, 38, 41, 46, 58, 75, 83 and 85 (even tho that’s 12 but I can’t part with any of these)
Less favorites: 55, 30, 97 (only because I don’t love combining b&w on one side and color on the other but I love love the negative space in the makeup image), 70, 19, 39, 37, 48, 49 and 2.\
One helpful tip I got once: Show what you want to shoot. So if you love shooting outdoor ceremonies, show more of that. You’ll attract clients who want that as well. If you love shooting casual, creative portraits with the bride and groom, you’ll attract clients who really value that as well. My problem is that I love all of it, so I sometimes worry that my portfolio is a hodgepodge.
One other thing I noticed: You have a bunch of awesome groom/groomsmen images in that 100. I think that’s a real strength of yours. They’re all fantastic and creative and really different than a lot of groom/groomsmen images I see on blogs and web sites and such. So definitely include a couple. That said, in my market it’s usually the brides whose opinion is weighted a little more in making hiring decisions for the wedding. And they oftentimes like to see beautiful images of beautiful brides so they can imagine themselves on their wedding day. Just a thought.
Man, I wish we could shoot a wedding together about once a year. I think it would be really fun creatively. I love what you’re doing with the off-camera lighting. You rock, Graeme.
