Hildy + Stanley | Pet Portraits

Strictly speaking, I’m not a pet photographer. But after shooting Hildy and Stanley a few weeks ago I’m very tempted to become one. When Kay contacted me about doing a shoot with her mom Katie and their two lovable Daschunds, I just couldn’t resist. We spent a few hours up at 4Mounds (which mosly consisted...

Recent Studio Work. – Dubuque Photography

Our November promotion, along with the bitter cold kept me inside the studio for the majority of last month’s shoots. I would say a good 90% of my work over the last five years has been on location, so I really wanted to step-up my studio craft for this fall. ‘Good, clean images’ has always...

Hey Jesse, I’ll send you a message and let you know!

Thanks for all the comments everyone!!

Jesse Lange - January 5, 2011 - 3:25 am

Graeme,

What is it called when you can see the pentagonal, blurred lights throughout a picture such as the one in the first picture on your recent studio work blog with the young brunette girl? Was this achieved by shooting with a telephoto lens through some dangling lights? If not, how did you get the shapes in the foreground? I’m curious!

What I find the most likeable in your images of people that you’ve posted online is your knack for capturing the happiness, silliness, and goofiness, and doing so in a flattering way. You have a terrific eye for portraiture.

Victoria - December 28, 2010 - 8:50 pm

Lovin’ ALL of your studio work too!! You know how to take something such as studio portraits, which usually are over done and stale, and make art out of each and every image. You have a rockin’ talent!

Amy - December 17, 2010 - 3:52 am

Great pictures! I especially like the one of the toddler in the red dress. ;-)

Sean - December 16, 2010 - 11:14 pm

A) love the light painting self portrait. Glad to see it was a long exposure and not a photoshop insertion.

B) love the one of Lauren. Keep up the good work

Ben & Kristi | {Lifestyle}

I shot Kristi and Ben’s wedding down in Atlanta AGES ago back in early 2007, and since then we’ve become great friends! Last November I was running a special to raise money for Blood:Water Mission by offering $50 shoots with all proceeds going directly to the organization. Kristi and Ben were living in Japan at...

Kaiser Cartel.

On their way from Chicago up to Maple lake, Minnesota, Kaiser Cartel made a pitstop in Dubuque to do a show at 180 Main and an interview with Music Spazz. Gregory called me that afternoon to see if I wanted to do an impromptu photoshoot with Benjamin and Courtney, so before I knew it we...

Treva and Rachel | {Preview}

If you’re in the Tri-state area I’d like to quickly plug the ‘Studio Shows’ – intimate concerts put on by my friends over at Music Spazz that take place right here in Dubuque. If you haven’t been to one yet, you are definitely missing something special. There have only been a handful so far, but...
